My husband fell four days ago. Pavement, blood, nine stitches under his chin. By this morning, the wound had already started closing.

It made me think differently about the ocean crisis we talk about so much. We treat damage like it’s permanent. Often it isn’t – not if we give it room and time to recover, the way a body does.

This week’s haiku triptych, “Nine Stitches,” sits with that idea. Not naive optimism. Just the plain fact that healing is often slower and quieter than the wound, and worth waiting for.

Haiku Triptych: [Listen – Singing Haiku]

Blood on the pavement.
Nine stitches close what he lost.
Skin forgets by dawn.

Give the sea some time.
Coral remembers stillness,
scars fade like his chin.

Not helpless. Patient.
His new skin, pink, is closing.
I wait for the tide.
